It is with great sadness that we announce that after more than 30 years of educating HVAC/Allied Health students, American school of Technology will be permanently closing on October 21, 2016.
How did this happen? There are multiple intertwined reasons: declining numbers of enrollments industry wide, and a negative characterization of for-profit education by regulators and politicians that continues to worsen.
This is not another case of a school being forced to shut down because it was accused of wrongdoing. We held ourselves to high educational and ethical standards and have a great reputation among our partners in the community. The environment is simply not one that allows us to remain open. We diligently explored a range of strategic options that would benefit our students, teachers, and staff - and allow us to remain open. Unfortunately, those efforts were not successful.
Students who have not graduated from the HVAC program at AST have the opportunity to complete their program at Fortis College. Medical Assisting students may apply to transfer to other schools in the Columbus area to complete their program. These institutions may assist students and consider their academic course work at AST for possible transfer credit.
After October 21, 2016 all student records will be transferred to the State Board of Career Colleges & Schools for permanent storage, including current and past students. After the closure, students with records requests (e.g., transcript/diploma) may contact the State Board of Career Colleges & Schools.
